Elite cyclists compete wearing Transitions adaptive sunglasses; speak to visual advantage during races
LAS VEGAS, September 24, 2013 – The benefits of Transitions® adaptive sunglasses were on full display to the more than 15,000 fans attending the USA CRITS Championship Series finals, the culmination of a national, 10-event race series, which began in March in Tucson, Arizona. Products featured included:
• Nike® MAX Transitions® Speed Tint – designed specifically for endurance athletes like runners and cyclists
• Oakley® Transitions® adaptive sunglasses – featuring Clear to Black Iridium and G40 lenses to offer a visual advantage to cyclists and golfers.
Several CRITS Series athletes have been wearing Transitions adaptive sunglasses, which automatically change color and tint as outdoor light changes, throughout the race series, and provided glowing reviews of the product performance and visual benefits.
"The Oakley Transitions G40 lens is the bomb, it has always been one of my favorite lenses because of its all-weather/light capabilities,” said Laura Van Gilder, CRITS cyclist. “Overall, I really like the Transitions lenses and the options they offer for racing and riding."
“The Nike MAX Transitions sunglasses were awesome during my race,” said Morgan Patton, CRITS cyclist. “It was nice not having to worry about what lenses I needed to bring. They were especially great for one of the turns on the course – it was extremely shady in that specific spot and made it hard to see the pavement and best line to take if your glasses were too dark. I was very happy to have Transitions adaptive sunglasses through that turn.”
“The CRITS Series races, which happen at twilight, have been a perfect venue to show off the benefits of automatically adjusting sunglass lenses,” said Grady Lenski, managing director, adjacencies, Transitions Optical. “The light changes significantly throughout the race, which begins during daylight hours and continues into the evening. Transitions adaptive sunglasses help enhance a cyclist’s visual experience so they can focus on the course instead of the changing light.”
The company has sponsored the USA CRITS Championship Series, along with the Transitions Optical “Out of Sight” award – honoring the male and female cyclists who achieved the longest break of the race.
